APON Child Sponsorship Program allows you to sponsor a child for just BDT 1200 or US$15/GBP10 per month (equivalent to BDT 14,400.00/$180 per year). The program will help build a brighter future for the underprivileged and disadvantaged children of the country by providing education for all. Md. Rakib Hossain

Rakib is a student of Class 6 at UCEF School. As a child, Rakib was not sent to school by his parents because of their poor financial condition. In fact, the family depended on Rakib to meet their living expenses. For two years from 2012-2013, APON provided basic education to Rakib and occasional financial support to his family. At the end of the two years, Rakib was admitted to Class 2 of UCEF School. Rakib is currently receiving special care of APON teachers under the ‘LITTLE STEPS’ project run by APON Foundation. LITTLE STEPS provides special academic support for poor students. Rakib wants to be a doctor one day.

Jhorna

Jhorna is an orphan. She studies in Class five at UCEP School. Her father died when she was only two years old. Her mother, Nilufa Begum is extremely ill and is physically unable to undertake any laborious work for her family. Jhorna’s grandmother, who is a sexagenarian, works as a domestic help when she can. She also works as a sweeper in the park adjacent to Dhanmodi Lake receiving a monthly salary of Tk. 3000. Jhorna’s 5 member family is totally dependent on her meager earnings. Sometimes Jhorna goes out to work so as to be able to financially support her family. She wants to be a fashion designer.

From a very young age, Hanif Hossain has been working as a ‘Tokai’ or ‘scavenger’, picking scrap papers and rubbish from garbage cans. Hanif lives in Rayer Bazar Slum with his parents. Now he is a student of class 5 at UCEP School, Rayer Bazar. His family is incapable of bearing his education expenses. Hanif wants to be a doctor so that he can provide free medical treatment to the people of his slum. His father runs a small shop which is the only source of income of the family. Hanif needs financial assistance in order to continue his education.

What the Children will Receive:

For just $15 per month ($180 per year), APON will provide the following forms of support to your sponsored child:

  • Education Support: Books; School uniform; Backpack; School supplies; Tuition support; School improvement; Teacher’s training; School furniture and equipments (as needed);
  • Basic Necessities: Clothes for regular use & winter clothing; Shoes; Blankets; Mosquito nets.
  • Health and Hygiene: Essential materials for health and hygiene; Provision of water and sanitation facilities.
  • Yearly Vision Care
  • Emergency support: in the event of an accident or health emergency, APON provides financial support.
  • Income generating activities for parents
